Procedure: PICC line placement.


History: []


Technique: Informed consent was obtained. The patient was identified and placed in the supine position. The [right] arm was prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion. Under ultrasound guidance, the [right basilic vein] was punctured. An 0.018 in wire was introduced, the needle removed and a 5.5 French sheath placed. Under fluoroscopic observation and via the peel-away sheath, a [] cm 5 French [double lumen] PICC line was placed with its tip at the junction of the distal superior vena cava. The catheter was flushed with heparinized saline and sutured to the patient's skin. The patient tolerated the procedure well.


Dr. [], the attending interventional radiologist, was present for the critical portions of the procedure and reviewed all images obtained.


Impression:


Uncomplicated placement of [right] upper extremity [double lumen] PICC line.
