Parathyroid scan sample dictation
HISTORY: The patient is year-old with [elevated intact PTH and hypercalcemia]. Evaluation for parathyroid adenoma.
PROCEDURE: Static images of the anterior neck were obtained 20 minutes following the IV administration of mCi Tc-99m pertechnetate. Then, static images of the anterior neck and chest were obtained immediately following the IV administration mCi Tc-99m sestamibi. Subsequently, subtraction technique was performed. Delayed images of the neck and anterior chest were obtained at 2 hours.
[SPECT/CT images of the neck were obtained with reconstructions in the transaxial, coronal, and sagittal planes for further evaluation.]
FINDINGS: The pertechnetate/sestamibi parathyroid scan shows physiologic uptake of the radiotracers. On the subtraction images, there is no radiotracer activity seen within the area of thyroid gland.
The target-to-background ratio increases on the delayed images as compared to the immediate images.
[It should be noted that parathyroid scintigraphy demonstrates limited sensitivity for parathyroid adenomas weighing less than 300 mg.]
IMPRESSION: [Normal/Abormal] radionuclide parathyroid scintigraphy.
1. No evidence of parathyroid adenoma.
